2nd January 2013

Greetings!

As expected there were a few more vehicles that arrived during the night and early this morning a garbage truck arrived with lights and sound.  Boy he seemed to go fast!  We are thankful though that he came to pick up the rubbish to keep the rest areas tidy...

The kids of course were up before most of the campers and we decided to pack up, leave and have breakfast later. So a little reversing and off we went.

Let me tell you a little something about the environment we have been traveling through.  It is beautiful.  The windy roads around the valley give you amazing views down into them and they are filled with very tall trees, large tree ferns and shrubbery that colours the place with all sorts of green colours. We are very close to the ocean at this part of the trip and so there are rivers flowing into them from the mountains we are driving on.  If any of you have read the John Marsden books - Tomorrow when the war began - it is here that you can hide from any enemy - if you are walking in one of these valleys close to the river, there is no chance of seeing you from the road, it is overgrown with the most amazing flora.

So at this time of the day we put some music on and I find some christian music after I heard this particular song I wanted to share it with you readers..."You never have to face life alone, now that God has made himself known. As Father and friend, with us to the end.....Immanuel".  I love that song and for me, today, the songs were the "Potters hands" and "Above All".  A moment to treasure that above everything Jesus died for me.

To bring me out of this reflective time...."Ocean" is yelled and we come into the town of Merimbula, where it happily sits with mountains to the back of it and the ocean at its front.  It is lovely.  Reminds me a little of 'Doc martin" with the boats on the water (and oyster farms). We pile out of the car onto the street edge, where a little old lady (who reminds me very strongly of Aunty Beryl and GG rolled into one) greets us. We have a short conversation about how far we have come and she makes us feel very welcome in her town - and we like it too.
Merimbula - that's our caravan parked on the street.

On their stomach looking into the beautiful water at Merimbula jetty.

So we eat, look around the jetty and pile into the car again.  We are hit with more majestic views of the NSW coastal towns and geography.  This part of the nation has more traffic on it and a whole lot more holidaymakers.  They are everywhere in Eden and along the towns but not more than 'Lakes Entrance".  What a place.  So much water, ocean and lakes, estuaries, caravan parks and happy snappers.

Travelers tips for kids....When you see a nice park with a playground - stop and let the kids out.... They absolutely love it, they feel great, they sit in the car better and the next part of the journey is wonderful.

At Lakes Entrance we stop and go to the water.  The kids are completely in while we grown ups walk around the edge, keeping an eye on the water current and the kids and the pelicans, and the shells and crabs they pick up for us to see ( no they didn't pick up a Pelican!).  They are both wonderful and I can't thank them enough for enjoying this trip too.
Swimming at Lakes Entrance.

Naomi and the kids after their swim.

Tonight we are in a free spot just outside of Bairnsdale, close to Sale.  We will head to Melbourne seeing that we are low to the coast and see if we can have a 'day' in Melbourne.

The sun is slowly going down.  The kids are ready to play Monopoly and the knives are out tonight (well the dice anyway) in an attempt to get the good properties - age does not come into it at all......

Good night all,
love the Wheaties xxxx
